EMD and Ferromex sign locomotive purchase agreement
La Grange, Illinois and Col. Bosques de Las Lomas, Mexico - Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) and Ferrocarril Mexicano, S.A. de C.V. (Ferromex) announced today the signing of a purchase agreement for 44 new SD70ACe locomotives. This represents the first new order for locomotives Ferromex has placed since 2006.
La Grange, Illinois - Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) announced today it has signed an agreement to supply five new SD70ACe locomotives to Quebec North Shore and Labrador (QNS&L), a subsidiary of Iron Ore of Canada. EMD is scheduled to deliver the new locomotives in August 2011. QNS&L previously ordered seven SD70ACe model locomotives that were delivered last year.

Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. (EMD) headquartered in North America today announced it has decided to enter into an agency agreement with Aman Trading and Engineering (AT&E) headquartered in Egypt. AT&E and EMD will work together in partnership to provide the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) with the variety of products and service support for ENR's large fleet of EMD locomotives.
ALBERTVILLE, Ala., Aug. 2 -- Progress Rail Services announced today it has finalized the purchase of Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) for $820 million in cash, plus a net working capital adjustment subject to post-closing finalization, which is currently estimated at approximately $108 million, from Berkshire Partners LLC and Greenbriar Equity Group LLC. Effective with the closing of the acquisition, EMD is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Progress Rail. Progress Rail is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT).
"The acquisition of EMD is a natural fit as it supports our enterprise strategy to aggressively grow our Energy Power Systems business, of which the rail industry is an important component," said Caterpillar Vice Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman. "Both EMD and Progress Rail will continue to produce innovative solutions to establish leadership positions in the United States and abroad," continued Oberhelman.
Progress Rail Services Announces Intention to Acquire
Today Greenbriar Equity Group LLC and Berkshire Partners LLC announced they have signed a definitive agreement to sell Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. to Progress Rail Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT). This transaction, which is subject to clearing certain regulatory requirements, will create a global locomotive manufacturing and rail services company. EMD will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Progress Rail.
Progress Rail Services is one of the largest providers of rail and transit products and services in North America, including: locomotive upgrade and repair; railcar remanufacturing; trackwork; rail welding; rail repair and replacement; signal design and installation; maintenance of way equipment; parts reclamation and recycling.

EMD and NS Launch Extensive Biodiesel Fuel Test Program
La Grange, IL - Norfolk Southern Railway Co. and Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. announced that they are partnering to conduct testing on the use of biodiesel fuel for locomotive applications.
Biodiesel fuel, a renewable resource, has been shown to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, hydrocarbons and particulate matter, while essentially eliminating exhaust emissions of sulfur oxides and sulfates.

Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc. welcomes the recent announcements of stimulus funding for the development of passenger rail transportation systems, beginning with President Obama's plan introduced last Thursday in Tampa, to distribute $8 billion in high-speed rail grants to thirteen major "travel corridors" across the country.
