World leading rail expert to visit
Europe
David E. Brann an acknowledged international expert on railway
emissions will visit European railway industry representatives to
advise on European environmental issues. Mr. Brann works for General
Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD) one of the world's leading
locomotive and engine manufacturers.
Speaking from LaGrange, Illinois Mr. Brann said,
"It has long been acknowledged that rail travel offers a more
environmentally friendly mode of transport than road, particularly
when it comes to freight transport."
"What I hope to do on this trip to Europe is to share some
of my research and findings so that we can make the railway industry
even more environmentally friendly. I have no doubt that there will
also be lessons that I can take back to the US about developments
in European railway technology."
Don Riach, Director of World Wide Sales at EMD added,
"Each country has different certification procedures, but
what we have found from our work in over 70 countries is that there
are lessons and experiences we can share to enable railways to improve.
Ultimately our concern is that the railways are as efficient as
possible which means not only passengers and goods traveling from
A to B on time, but also that such transport as is used is sustainable
and that we protect our environment for the future."
