Electro-Motive Marine Engine Meets 2007 EPA Standards
Emissions Compliance Achieved Two Years Ahead of Schedule

LaGrange, Illinois - General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) today announced that testing has been completed to confirm compliance with the Tier 2 marine engine emissions standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These standards go into effect in January 2007.

According to Don Riach, Sales & Marketing Director for Electro-Motive, "Our successful engine development program for addressing 2005 EPA emissions standards for diesel locomotives helped us to accelerate meeting the 2007 EPA emissions standards for marine engines. Our marine engine also meets these standards without adding any new technologies or complicated equipment."

The Electro-Motive marine engine used in these tests will be on display December 1 - 3 during the 2004 WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, Louisiana. This 12-cylinder, 710 Series engine is electronically controlled and uses separate loop aftercooling.

Electro-Motive has built 70,000 engines that have operated in over 100 countries. This includes 12,000 engines for marine application and other power products markets. Electro-Motive has been compliant with International Maritime Organization (IMO) and EPA Tier 1 marine engine standards since they came into effect.
