1950 General Motors expands its locomotive manufacturing capacity in North America by opening the GM Diesel Division plant in London, Ontario, Canada.

EMD exports its first engine to an Associate, Clyde Engineering, to power a locally manufactured locomotive for the Australian market.


1951

EMD delivers its 10,000th locomotive, an E8 passenger locomotive to the Wabash Railroad. This 2,250 hp locomotive seals the fate of steam passenger locomotives.


1952

Electro-Motive sells its first 6-axle SD (Special Duty) heavy drag locomotive.


1954

EMD produces its 15,000th locomotive.

Introduction of EMD's first line of mobile diesel-electric generating sets used for utility peaking, reserve and base load power.


1959 The first 567 turbocharged engine is introduced on the SD24 locomotive and delivered to the Burlington Railroad.
