toward the future and introduce the "Dash-2" locomotive
-- a third generation in rail motive power that would become
the backbone of the North American railroad fleet.

Three years after it begins operations to provide a viable
rail passenger system for the United States, Amtrak takes
delivery of its first SDP40F passenger locomotive.

| 1975 |
Electro-Motive reassumes responsibility for the direct sales
of its products worldwide from General Motors Overseas Operations.

| 1978 |
EMD reaches the 100 million horsepower milestone with the
production of a 16-cylinder diesel engine for delivery to
the Burlington Northern in a new SD40-2 locomotive.
The 5,000th EMD marine diesel engine is put into service.

The next-generation "50 Series" locomotive
is introduced, incorporating a new wheel adhesion control system.
