EMD OPENS EUROPEAN OFFICE

(Chicago, IL) General Motors Electro-Motive Division today announced the opening of its European office, marking a major step forward in its ongoing commitment to Europe. From this office, based in Rüsselsheim near Frankfurt, EMD will oversee its expanding European business.

Don Riach, Director of Worldwide Sales said: "We have worked at the heart of Europe for over thirty years, and this office will form a base from which to grow this business further. We are committed to being a long-term solution provider of locomotives, parts and services in the European rail industry."

The office has been established following a period of substantial sales in the UK and recent sales in Sweden and Germany. EMD has recently received approval for their new Class 66 locomotive to operate in Germany. Certification in the Netherlands and Belgium is expected early this year.

The office will be headed up by Scott Garman, Director, Business Development, Europe. Garman joined GM in 1986 and will be responsible for managing and developing European contracts.

Scott Garman commented: "This business is not just about locomotive sales. Our approach is an integrated one, whereby we provide ongoing service and maintenance solutions. EMD works in partnership with its customers and associates - providing leading-edge locomotives for each market. We have a workforce working round-the-clock across Europe. This together with the new office demonstrates that we anticipate significant commercial opportunities across Europe and we will make the most of them."

The office is in Rüsselsheim and will eventually employ 4 people.

Don Riach continued: "Liberalisation of the European railways offers tremendous opportunities. We have built a world-class locomotive business and want to work together with our European partners to tailor this expertise to local needs."

The office opens officially on 19th February and will be marked by events in Brussels and Rüsselsheim later in the year.
