Ever since its successful introduction in the UK in 1998, the
Series 66 locomotive has been winning praise and improving railway
efficiency thanks to its high reliability and availability. EMD
recently introduced two revised versions of the Series 66: one
for the UK and one for the European continent. The updated versions
are renamed the JT42CWRM (the "M" stands for "modified").
This locomotive now fully complies with the UIC II emissions
levels stipulated in leaflet 624. Changes have also been made
to the driver's cabins reduce to cab noise levels, creating a
more comfortable operating environment. EMD's IntelliTrainTM service
is now available as an option to provide GPS tracking and remote
health monitoring and diagnostics to improve fleet performance.
And for the Continental Series 66, air conditioning is now an
available option to further improve driver comfort.
